T-316 stainless contains 2–3% molybdenum, which dramatically increases resistance to chlorides, salt air, and acids compared to standard 304-grade steel. If you're installing outdoors near the ocean, on a boat, in an RV, or on a patio exposed to the elements, 316 is the correct choice.

Why 316 vs. 304? Sodium chloride (salt) attacks standard stainless over time through a process called pitting corrosion. The molybdenum in T-316 acts as a barrier, making it far more resistant in saltwater and coastal environments — Long Story Short: 316 Grade Stainless holds up significantly better outdoors and near the coast.
