Biggest Sink for a 42" Corner Sink Base Cabinet
You may have found our blog searching for the largest kitchen sink you can fit in your corner sink base cabinet. In fact, our first blog post Biggest Sink for a Corner Sink Base Cabinet has become pretty popular over the past year! But that particular article was geared towards a standard 36" corner. What if you have a 42" corner? Well... buckle up! We are about to show you just how big your new sink can be.
It is true. The angles of a corner sink base cabinet will effect the placement of your kitchen sink. When cabinets and sinks aren't your forte, you might take to Google to find out set/standard set backs to try and figure out what sink you need. Fortunately for you, you reached DirectSinks: The family that not only knows everything there is to know about sinks, but we are also kitchen designers for the past 25+ years.
Any way, back to the question at hand.
Here is your answer. For a 42" corner sink base cabinet, you'll want to shop like you have a standard 30" cabinet. In other words, find a sink that has an overall dimension of no more than 29", giving you a bowl size of 27".
If you don't require a more in depth, visual answer, now would be the time to skip down to the bottom to view our suggested sink options for your cabinet. 👇
Often, not always, the sink will be set back 3" from the front frame of the cabinet. Now, three inches back from the face frame of a 42" corner cabinet gives you a measurement of about 28-28.5" between the cabinet walls. This measurement is pretty much what is expected in a standard 30" sink base cabinet that would be used in a straight run.
You might be saying, but can't a larger sink fit? The answer is technically yes... BUT it will result in your sink having to be installed further back. This may not seem like a big deal to you now. But leaning over an additional 3/4" - 1" may cause you to learn further while working at the sink, not mention reaching further for your faucet. You can get a better visual of this distance in the image below.
Ergonomically speaking, corner sink base cabinets are not ideal. As kitchen designers, it isn't our top choice for sink location unless there is a driving factor us to do so. Those factors could be- spacing, window placement, pre existing location, homeowner desire, or cost savings.
Now for the fun part! Let's explore our favorite sink options for a 42" corner sink base cabinet (aka for a 30" standard sink base cabinet). 👇
